San Francisco: all I remember is food and hikes.
I’m posting all the recommendations of my last travels so apologies for the late postings, but I thought it might come in handy for all the people preparing for their post COVID-19 travels ;). And it might come in handy for us again as well – as we’ll be going back.
Food
- Taqueria La cumbre – first-night tacos. They tasted legit, authentic and good for their price on our first evening.
- Mitchell’s ice cream – as dessert after our tacos. I’D DO THIS AGAIN, AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.
- Embarcadero
- New lun ting/pork chop house: roast pork with curry or gravy, go for curry. No need for the soup. Good value for money. Paid 36 dollars for 3 people (hole in the wall Chinese food)
- Griddle: AMAZZZZZZZZING breakfast. Have the ricotta pancakes (there’s real OG ricotta inside), Suzette had the Mexican eggs. I had the savoury French toast- should’ve gone for Suzette’s eggs or Edgar’s ricotta pancakes. Or the Benedict – the thick soft bread it was served with looked amazing
- Morning buns at Tartine – Tartine is a household name. What can I say: it’s GOOD.
- Italian at Beretta: ok, wouldn’t go again. All was good but it wasn’t special. Burrata truffle walnut bread was good.
- Instead do this: Birite gourmet for amazing salads (Brussels sprouts) and gourmet food for lunch. Racks and racks of cheeeseeeee
- Craftsman and Wolves: really good lemon curd pastry. And the Oolong ice tea tasted very authentic – some light taste of green tea/passion fruit
- Pescadero – arcangeli has a bakery with amazing warm artichoke bread. The best. Go try the oleole pie at Duarte’s tavern
- Go drink beer at Mikkeler
- Eat at In ‘n out burger – for us Europeans/Asians
- Have Oysters for 1 dollar at Mayes
- Pancakes, grits, grelade and biscuits at Brenda’s French Sould Food for Louisiana style brunch. It tasted average – but this was also our last day in San Francisco and we might’ve grown accustomed to REAL GOOD TASTE. We liked Griddle restaurant better.
Lounges
- The View – Lounge
- Charmaine’s
We didn’t do these but as Stacy and Jessica recommended these to me – I must believe they are legit.
- Dumpling Kitchen (shanghai style dumplings)
- Hong Kong Lounge II (dim sum)
- Swan Oyster Depot (fresh seafood, beware long lines! Best to go as it opens or in the afternoon while everyone is at work)
- Burma Superstar (dinner, Burmese food. Delicious but can also get busy!)
- Foreign Cinema (dinner, a little bit more expensive)
- El Farolito (Mexican food, burritos!)
- Delfina (Pizza)
- A big fatty breakfast burger at SuperDuper Burger
- Coqueta (by Embarcadero) or Lolinda (the mission) for dinner
- The House
- Kin Khao
- Octavia
To Do
- The View
- Golden Gate Bridge: rent a bike a ride across the bridge to a small town on the other side of the bay called Sausalito. The town is nice, and you can ferry back to San Francisco from there-Great views of the bridge
- Hawk Hill across the bridge in Marin Headlands (would need a car or Uber, or bike if you’re feeling up for a workout)
- Hogs Island is legit
- Ferry Building
- Fort Point (old fort at the base of the bridge in SF)
- Lands End Trail (highly recommend this easy hike if the weather is nice)
- Baker Beach (can be reached by lands end trail)
- Exploring/eating in the North Beach neighbourhood (good low-key pizza place: golden boy)
- Museums: MoMA, de Young (in Golden Gate park)
- Mount Tamalpais
- Japan Town, Haigh Ashbury, Hayes Valley, Embarcadero Ferry Building
- Hayes valley Reliquary in Hayes valley – nice Japanese design
- Morning run Glenpark
- Run to twin peaks
- Moraga stairs
- Go walk along the ocean beach
- Do groceries at Rainbow supermarket – so much choice, a lot of “good” choices too (think sustainable and green foods)
- Go for a workout at Barry’s Bootcamp
- Hire a car and visit Apple infinite loop and then drive to the Patagonia outlet in Santa Cruz (the sundown scenic drive is beautiful to watch)
