Big companies, authority issues and holocracy

I signed up to the Medium platform – I’m probably late – but WOW on their data and targeting. Their articles weren’t relevant to me at all the beginning but I caught myself clicking on all their article titles today when their newsletter hit my inbox.

There was this article about “Why we hate working for big companies”Β which is not just another article about “I hate my life” “I hate my boss” “I want to start something myself” but that actually gives food for thought – the writer quit himself, and started his own company only to realize how ironic it was thatΒ  “hisΒ inability to work for someone else resulted in creating a company that involved a lot of smart, capable people working for someone else.”. The article gives couple of analogies – e.g. using a communist society to depict what could happen and how it didn’t work – making you take a step back and view this from a broader point of view.

The author Luke does not give a solution to how the right organization should look like, but it did make me realize again and highlighted what my parents have been telling me “Starting your own company does not mean you can do whatever you want and be your own boss, you will be subject to the frills of your employees, shareholders and customers. You’ll just trade one form of freedom for another form.”

Sigh..
